In a past life as a line executive for a company with locations in Tennessee, Minnesota and New Jersey, I commuted each and every week among all three places. One of my (not so) favorite memories was a Friday afternoon when I heard the pilot’s voice came over the speaker: “The good news is that we have our number for takeoff. The bad news is that the number is 76. It takes about 3 ½ minutes for each plane to taxi and takeoff safely….I’ll let you do the math.”

“Just the facts, ma’am” is the mantra for Jack Webb from the 1950’s TV program Dragnet.  Today we say, “Show me the data.”  And, therein lies a cautionary tale.
