Integrated demand-supply planning

Global technology company

Challenge: Transform an integrated worldwide demand-supply planning process and organization to meet dynamic customer requirements, improving speed, predictability, reliability and accountability within the organization and for customers.

Methodology:

  • Designed a core team with cross-functional members to represent all planning and technical functions.
  • Staffed sub-teams to break down solution development across organization, process, technology and KPI requirements.
  • Facilitated requirements discussions with plant and supply chain leadership in the US, Japan, Thailand, China and the Philippines.
  • Benchmarked process and technical requirements and gathered external input for KPI development.
  • Drafted straw model organization, process, technology requirements, and KPI solutions that met all of the objectives.
  • Documented change requirements and facilitated buy-in with plant, corporate and supply chain leadership.
  • Supported implementation of the design and new technology implementation through change management.
  • Developed training and simulation sessions to transfer knowledge to new corporate planning teams and site specific planners.

Benefits realized:

  • An integrated demand-supply planning organization and process was created and approved. Decision rules aligned with dynamic customer needs.
  • Rescued a difficult technical implementation through change readiness and training support.
  • Speed = reduced the planning cycle from 13 to 5 days.
  • Predictability = through transparency increased confidence in data accuracy.
  • Flexibility = built in dynamic process elements to accommodate fluctuating demand.
  • Leverage = eliminated low value data entry, redirecting staff resources to high value business analysis.
